2014 Seriti and Agrigrow, Sibanye and Gold Fields

BEKKERSDAL – In 2014 the South Deep Community Trusts, mining houses Sibanye Gold and Gold Fields made the decision to collaborate with the Westonaria Local Municipality and its residents to put an end to years of violent unrest and neglect on Johannesburg’s gold reef. Facilitated by Seriti Institute and AfriGrow, the Westonaria Organisation Workshop launched in October 2015. This is the story of an eight-week process of organising, training and mediation that is bringing about lasting change for one of Gauteng’s most troubled communities.
